I'm talking about painting the brackets that secure the coils to the solenoids, not the actual coils themselves but probably makes no difference. In sure it all heats up just the same. I just want to stop the rust.

Those look pretty gnarly. Coke bath? Might do some, but I'd guess one of those layered sandpaper wheels for your grinder...


And all new nuts. Any hardware that's all rusty should go. My .02c

I think if had one of those carts I would look into changing those to something like copper, or stainless. A copper plumbing pipe flatten good might work.
I would be into changing all the cables too. I'm afraid I would get the mightaswells.

Curious, but has anyone painted the resistor board? I know the coils get hot and thinking about painting the board with some red engine paint.

Wow, some coke will go along way on those terminals.....

Found some engine paint rated at 2000 degrees. Still contemplating......

I would take apart and steel brush what you can & use the chemical to convert rust into something you can paint, excluding the coils. Looks like the cable also needs attention, it would be a job but you could restore and clean all of that up.
