So is the 400 amp alltrax controller a good option then ?

400 for stock motor flat terrain.
500a for hilly terrain, bigger tires, and rear seat... and or aftermarket motors.

These bigger controllers will allow the motor to access more amperage so it will produce more torque (power) this usually helps on hills and may improve top speed if power is holding you back from full motor rpm.

On a series car you have to increase motor horse power, differential gear, or increase voltage. Larger wheels and tires is minimal at best, and takes away low end torque. That's where adding a higher amp controller will help. Voltage is speed, amperage is torque

This cart was owned at least twice before me. I understand that it had also been considered totaled in an accident, but the owner paid to have it restored. The first owner doesn't know much about golf carts, but told me that he had high speed gears put in it. I do know that it had an old, low amp curtis controller in it before I changed it out for a 400 amp. It has an old motor, that I assumed was the stock motor. When I got it, it would do about 19mph on the street, but now it goes almost 25mph on a flat surface. It's a real ratty looking series CC DS. It says it is a '97 but the wiring looks like the '99 drawings. One of the batteries went bad last year and I replaced all of them. I am running 22x11x8 on the back and 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires/wheels on the front (overall diameter 16.1" on front). Turns on a dime The previous owners may have done something to it, but I can't see anything special. I did change the rear brakes and packed and replaced the front wheel bearings. I also greased and lubed anything I could find that moved.

Pdiddy, the cheapest route is just to have your current motor upgraded by PQ to a Bandit motor. As Scotty mentioned, a controller will just increase torque, not speed on a series cart in most cases.

Since you are already 48 volt, you COULD see if you can find a 36 volt series CC motor to bolt up. Instant 33% gain in torque and speed, should get you 17-19ish MPH on stock tires. This is cheaper than the Bandit, but good luck finding a used motor. I run a 48 volt series cart that belongs to my cousin this way and I am very happy with it, especially since for me it was a free and extremely noticeable upgrade in speed and torque.

This is what I was pointing to. Didn't want to the original poster here to think a new control was going to give him 25 mph.

My '97 CC DS is right there speed wise and my only upgrade was high speed gears and new batteries and cables with 10" wheels and street tires.
