How often do you change out your batteries
I have been losing range BIG TIME... big time big time
Wondering how often you all change out your batteries - mine are about 2 years old. Also - what do I look for for longest possible range? |

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
Five years seems to be the accepted average lifespan. Mine are a bit over that now. Two seems awfully short. You're not over-discharging them, are you?

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
Batteries don't last as long in hotter climates, but two years is mighty short for a set of Crown CR-190 8V batteries.
Any of the high current cables or F/R switch getting hot? What is the pack voltage after the batteries rest for about 12 hours? What is the pack voltage while driving? ------------ For max range, you have to carry max AH. You currently have a 48V 190AH pack. Switching to Trojan Ranger 160 batteries will give you a 48V 204AH pack. Going from a 6 X 8V 48V pack to a 8 X 6V 48V pack maxes out at about 260 AH. Last edited by JohnnieB; 06-23-2015 at 05:52 PM.. Re: How often do you change out your batteries
Give us some info on how and when you charge. How often? What type batteries you have. Type charger? Are you keeping them watered?

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
By my reckoning you are in your 31st month with those batteries. You said the cart is a "daily driver". I'll use 20 days per month as an example. At that rate you are at about 600 cycles, maybe more. Depending on average depth of discharge per cycle and considering the Fla heat, you could have just worn them out as would be expected under those conditions.

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
I tell all my customers average life for a set is 4-6 years depending on use...Two years def seems a bit short. I cater to mostly older retired people that use their carts as primary transportation around here and they still usually last a bit longer than that. Even our cheap Electro batteries get 3-4 years on average.

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
Tell us how often you charge them and how far you go between charges. Sounds like you have been hard on them if they are pooping out that quickly.

Re: How often do you change out your batteries
I tell customers 3-5 years depending on use and care. I ve seen them crap out around 30 months with heavy use or abuse (read no water). To many people "assume" they will go a time amount without considering usage. The chemical reactions that occur within will determine the lifespan.
