Someone put 6v batteries in a 48v cart. Put 8s in there and go from there

Well, I have determined that 1) the motor in this cart is 48v, and 2) that there are six 6 volt batteries connected in series, which would total 36 volts.
Would this cart have ever run using 36 volts total to power a 48 volt motor? Why would anyone even try to run it that way? |

You got it cheap and thats why. They probably dumped them in there to give you a core value or just wanted to get rid of them to avoid disposal.
