Default charging question on a 36 volt

I have searched and came up empty...
I bought a cart the other day and it came with a stanley charger, wasn't big on that. I bought a used total charge 3 today in the process of charging it now. The voltage is at 45 volts now, The batteries are 4 months old and water level is perfect, When should this charger cut off?
The stanley charger said they were full before i even plugged the new charger in?
I guess what im asking is what is a safe peak voltage during charging?
thanks

The charger should shut off around 45v or so. It may hold that voltage for awhile before it actually shuts off. I would watch it to see what it does so you will know and thus be able to trust it later. Check out this link:http://www.trojanbattery.com/tech-su...y-maintenance/ Scroll down to the charging section.

I've never seen the chart posted by dragracer and doesn't agree with the chart in the included link or the chart below which is commonly accepted on this forum.

No worries dragracer!

Also to the OP. Some battery brands suggest higher finishing voltages than others. US and Crown come to mind. For this reason chargers with adjustable finish voltage cutoff are becoming more popular.
Additionally, if there is any doubt about the condition of the batteries in your multimeter, change them. In my experience the multimeter will read high if it's batteries are failing.
