Re: Battery acid or Distilled water?
So now we're dumping acid mix into the batteries? LOL! What the hell is going on here?

Re: Battery acid or Distilled water?
I've worked with a lot worse than battery acid over the years. Some of the more dangerous chemicals like chlorine, caustic soda and hydrofluorosilicic acid are pretty nasty stuff but with the right precautions and PPE it can be a safe and benign process. Motorcycle batteries are shipped and sold with acid in a jug and you fill them. I use pretty strong acid in my pool. The question of being able to effectively clean out or flush batteries then refill them is intriguing to me because you know the little hole in the wall battery places by the road do something to make them perk back up and last a few more months.

Re: Battery acid or Distilled water?
Different battery manufacturers recommend different specific gravity for their batteries. They are setup for the ideal mixture when they're new. As the batteries charge, the water will evaporate and the acid will stay in the batteries. It's the same concept as saltwater evaporating out of the ocean. Salt stays in the ocean and the water turns to rain. When the water evaporates, you replenish it with water to cover the plates. The acid in the bottom of the batteries will mix with the water and the end result will be the same mixture the factory intended. The only reason you'd ever need to add acid to a battery is if it spills. Even then, you'd have to get the correct mixture in order for the battery to function properly.

Re: Battery acid or Distilled water?
If a fully charged battery doesn't meet specific gravity requirements could that be "adjusted"?
