Total Meltdown
Bought a 2005 Precedent. Previous owner said the controller was bad. He had already pulled the controller. Strong burnt electronics smell coming from it. So I decided to open it up. Holy cow...the insides were in a total meltdown. I mean there wasn't anything that wasn't burnt or melted inside. I took a picture of the insides but it is too large to upload. Before I stick another controller in it, what should I look for that would cause this much destruction? Nice cart though, 2 yr old 12v batteries. Custom 10" tires and wheels, a folding back seat and a carbon fiber dash. $600.00 I just don't want to put another controller in it and blow it up, if I can help it. PS Tried again and I think the pic went thru.

Re: Total Meltdown
With those rusty bolt heads I wonder if it has been in water and that caused it to short and catch fire.
I think you'll probably be advised by the experts on the forum to replace it with an Alltrax but you'll need to do some circuit checking before you connect anything else. |

Re: Total Meltdown
Pretty bad, but I don't think that is rust on B+ and M-, it looks like the color of overheated copper.
The filter capacitors that are sandwiched between the circuit boards probably exploded as well which would feed the fire inside the controller. You should do the continuity test on the motor to make sure it is not shorted. You should have Continuity between: A1 and A2No Continuity between: A1 and F1 |

Re: Total Meltdown
I think yawood is correct on water damage.
Note green on the small connector pins. Note the two small hold down bolts on the SMD and board mount. Pretty rusty it seems. Could just be overheated by current and fire as Sergio says. Did you notice anything else on the cart that could indicate a flooded condition? Check that motor for sure! |

Re: Total Meltdown
Any chance this cart was purchased from a flood zone after the southeast hurricane last year? Here in Charleston we had some flooded carts pop up for sale after the storm.

Re: Total Meltdown
Especially the bolt on the lower left because it is on a part of the board that didn't catch fire. I agree with Sergio that the two big bolts on the right could just be fire damaged.

Re: Total Meltdown
That's some saltwater corossion for sure. Change all the cables, check the motor, and slaps new Alltrax in there
