Take it for a drive till you smell the eggs then stop and check (touch) wiring and components for excess heat. Also check in the resistor speed box for dead animals. etc!

Re: ez go 1989 golf cart Batteries
Sounds like overcharged batteries or a shorted cell. I would check the water level in each battery. If they are leaking from the caps is the water level too high? The water should just cover the tops of the plates (1/8" above plate max) The smell is hydrogen sulfate? Anyway it is flammable/explosive and needs to be taken care of.

Now we need one of the battery experts to chime in..... removing the fluid level will also remove sulfuric acid. The SG would be altered. (Specific Gravity)

Well, I'm not a battery expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night
I have removed water from batts that were garden hose filled to the top and they are doing fine a yr later..... You can leaver them a little on the full side just to minimize the loss . Here is a good pic of where the water level should be. |

Re: ez go 1989 golf cart Batteries
Just put what you take out of the batteries in a jug and when they need more water later, put back in what you took out earlyer--

Re: ez go 1989 golf cart Batteries
Just take out what you need to drop the level and don't worry about the water/acid mix, it will be just fine and the SG won't change. When you need to add fluid later just use distilled water or if you really have to you could use what you took out before, either way it doesn't matter.
