Thanks Chad. I'm on the trail of a rear end within driving distance of me. I'll know for sure about it on Monday.

Well, I put abut 10 miles on the cart since putting the rear end back in it and the rear end has slowly quieted down the farther I've gone. Go figure. It actaully sounds fine now. A little whine type sound on deceleration but nothing like it was originally. I pulled the pan and this is what I found...

This is the oil.........

And here is some of what was in the pan...

Part of this metal is steel and part is aluminum...at least part of it is magnetic and part is not. I still see nothing wrong and no where that the metal could be coming from. Man, I hate to scrap this rear end after all the money and time that I've spent on it but I guess it will forever be the unanswered question.

Please disregard what I posted earlier, put some 80-90wt gear oil in it... that's better.

Man Terry that's weird. Have you inspected the casing itself on the inside? It's not the race that the input shaft rides on is it?

The bearings on the front and rear of the input are sealed bearings now.

This rear end has been a problem child from square one. I pulled the pan during the build and saw nothing abnormal so we modified the spring perches for the lowering stuff, painted it and put it back in. I pulled the pan after hearing some noise and there was metal in it. All I could find was the rear bearing on the input seemed a bit rough so I decided to change all the bearings and seals and be done with it. The new bearings are all sealed except for the carrier bearings. I ran it a few miles and checked it still had the metal. I've actually had it apart twice since then myself and paid a local cart shop to disassemble it completely and check everything a couple of weeks ago. I saw nothing wrong and they saw nothing wrong but obvbiously there is. I'm totally lost on this one.
