I actually emailed Trojan and he asked for pics. I sent them. I'll let you know what he says.

So are you saying that if there's a "1" on the negative terminal, then it has to have been shipped from the factory in 2001?
I just reread your post, I would start contacting Trojan... If it's a "K" then you may have some issues. My feeling is that it was mis-marked somehow.

And what about the positive terminals' dates being rubbed out?
I tend to be a pretty distrustful person. I better wait to hear from Trojan before I get too p.o.'d. Hopefully there is a reasonable explanation and they are, indeed, new.

I hear you, I have a hard time with that too. It's the profession I guess.

How have the voltages been? I have a hard time believing that they are 10 years old.

I've had 3 six packs of trojan batteries. 1 set of t-605s and 2 sets of t-105s. All of them had the date code stamped on the neg terminal. Nothing on the positive terminal.
There was some discussion on this forum some time ago (year or more I think) about when the date code was stamped on the battery. I don't remember the outcome exactly but I came away satisfied that it was not a big deal and you just wanted to be careful that you didn't buy batteries that were already 3-4 months old (at least for full price).
Two years ago I bought a six pack of 105s from a reputable dealer in the middle of June and the date code was G9 (July 09). They have been going strong now for 2 plus years of heavy use.
Just my opinion but I think you have factory fresh batteries and are good to go.

Interesting. What can the factory tell you that you can't find out from either here or the place you bought them? Sounds like they'll have no more history of those particular batteries than you or the seller, if not less.

When I was shopping for batteries for my build I always asked what the manufactured date was for their current inventory. And I actually came across batteries on more than one occasion that had a future date stamped on them. The parts guy and I even laughed about these batteries coming from the future. I figured the dates weren't actually the real manufactured date but rather the likelihood of when their dealers would receive them after making their way from the factory to the distributor and eventually to the dealer. If that's the case, you certainly received some of the newest inventory possible.

That seems more likely.

Thanks everyone.
I hadn't heard back from Trojan and checked to see if he'd received my pics, and he hadn't.......so I just resent them.
Just curious about how things work.
I'm a little skeptical after buying this fixed up cart last year and within 5-6 months, the "brand new" tires were leaking badly. Found out they had dry rot. Fortunately, the seller replaced all 4 with "real" new tires and they've been working great. So I like to be sure that "new" things with their new prices are really new!.
