OK to use 4 gauge jumper cables?
I've got 6 gauge, funky old cables in my cart. The local Autozone store has 4 gauge, 20' jumper cables for $40. That's 40' of 4 gauge copper at a buck a foot -- should be enough to rewire my cart.
Is there a downside, i.e., is the insulation on a jumper cable as impervious to the harsh conditions under the seat as the insulation on the cables in the kits? I can crimp, solder, and heat-shrink as well as the next guy. Just wondering if I'm setting myself up for problems down the road. RLW |

There's an old saying, "ya get what ya pay for". Personally, I would stick with 4g welding cable with a 400 strand count.

Most of those supposed 4 gauge cables are not really 4 gauge....more like a 10 gauge wire with a bunch of insulation.
