Default New batteries won't charge

I have a 1998 TXT and I have just installed new batteries. I drove it for about 2 hours before charging it for the first time - the charger took several hours to turn on. I then drove it for another few hours before plugging it in for the second time. For the second charge, the charger would not turn on - it just clicks. I borrowed a friend's charger and got exactly the same result - just clicking. The charge indicator on the dash shows that it should have some life left in it, but the reverse alarm is very faint.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, hide the cart keys, and let the cart charger FINISH CHARGING.

I guess I wasn't clear - the cart DID finish charging the first time. Then I drove it for awhile. When I plugged it in for the second time was when the trouble began.

A charger will not engage unless there is usually at least 28vdc in the battery pack. Measure the pack voltage at the charger receptacle.

The trouble actually began when you drove it two hours before charging the batteries the first time.

Then you nailed another nail in the new batteries' coffin by discharging them until the reverse beeper is faint.

In a nutshell, your actions are killing those new batteries.

Here is how to break in new batteries: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter...n_Methods.html
While there, read everything with the word "Battery" in the title and perhaps you'll discover what all you are doing wrong.
