87 and 94 parts the same
Found a guy parting out a 87 ezgo and mine is a 94. Are the parts the same? Specifically the steering box, I have a LOT of play in mine and I have already changed the steering rod so I'm thinking I may get a deal on some parts.

Re: 87 and 94 parts the same
After looking at it some more now I don't think the loosness is in the box now I think it's where the rack attaches to the mechanism under the cart. Below is a pic of how it looks. Should it be all the way down against the piece that it attaches to? Is there a way to get it out without taking the whole assembly apart (meaning removing the whole steering column) this is how I had to put it back togeather.

Did you remove anything or is that pic as is? You are missing a nut on the tie rod that should sit above the cotter pin hole (you are obviously also missing a cotter pin).
That alone will make your steering ______ |

Yeah I took the nut and pin off. I can get the nut up past the hole but when I try to tighten it all the way the whole thing turns.

Re: 87 and 94 parts the same
There is a strong possibility that I am wrong here, but I've been playing with my tie rods (that sounds weird) lately as well. The bolt you are tightening the nut onto is free floating inside the rod - it will spin if you tighten excessively - just get the nut on enough to put the pin back in.
Before you do that you should be able to spin/screw back onto the rod to get rid of the slack. |
