Default Fixed My Locking Brake Problem

My 2004 CC Precedent kept locking one brake whenever I depressed the pedal. I lubed the cables, removed the drums, cleaned/inspected the brake shoes, adjusted, etc. No change. I read some older posts and found where the U-bolts that hold the axle to the frame could loosen and cause this problem. Yep, that was the problem. My U-bolts were loose and bent. I really couldn't see why a U-bolt was used in this application anyway (I bought a cart that was already lifted) so I replaced the U-bolts with 7/16"x6", grade 8, hex head bolts with stop nuts. I now have 4 bolts holding the axle in place instead of two U-bolts which were probably a grade 2 bolt. The axle is now secure and the brakes work properly. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it solved! The u-bolts are an often overlooked item. They were cheap, that's why the factory used them!
