Help with making a purchase
Hey Guys!
Well I had to sell my 2002 TXT (no mods except headlights and battery meter) to pay an unexpected vet surgery bill. Aaghh. Starting to look for another cart and could really use some help making a decision on what to start looking for. The TXT was a 36v and did fine except when going up the road that has a long slight incline. I would really only use it to ride the property, to the neighbors or the store, all of which are slight inclines. I know I want 48v but getting confused on PDS,IQ etc, and which do you feel would best fit my needs. I would like to try to get one with a rear seat, lift kit and larger wheels and tires. I love the custom carts but not really sure what a reasonable price range would be for one. You guys have always been awesome and great to listen to your advice, and I look forward to your input. Re: Help with making a purchase
I think that the price ranges will greatly vary from area to area . The best advice I can give would be to compare all the type of carts in the area you are interested in to get an average . I would also buy a cart already done the way you like it , you'll save cash in the long run !I'm sure the pro's will be giving their input anytime now .

Re: Help with making a purchase
It sounds like you had a 'series' drive cart. The PDS and IQ type carts are all 'sepex' drive systems. they produce more speed but less torque than the series carts. So if you are just driving on streets go for a sepex cart, the Ezgo PDS is a good choice as it takes a $5 chip to achieve 19 mph on the flats... hope this helps.

Re: Help with making a purchase
Thanks jhnmflr for the input, your right about the price varying. There's a big part of me that would love to do the custom stuff myself but just don't have the time or the extra bucks. I'm in NC so I'm sure I can find something either here or SC if someone offers a cart at a fair price.
Scottyb, as usual, your a master! What is the difference between a PDS and an IQ? Also, I had heard that IQ's were harder and more expensive to work on? I've seen a few carts that say upgraded to speed 3 or 4 chip, but not really sure what speed that equates to. I don't need to go 30-40mph but a steady 20-23 would be good. |

Over 20? You will need an aftermarket controller combo = about $500 more any model sepex drive cart. |

A PDS cart with 22 inch tires and a chip will get you just over 20 mph but will possibly result in a controller failure at some point.

Scottyb, liking the 5.00 Ezgo chip. I've spent about a year reading all the posts, ideas and advice on here and I guess one of my big worries is, you see a lot of carts with all the custom appearance add ons but none of them talk about the controllers or motor upgrades that may be needed in order to run the fancy exteriors they show. Maybe I'm missing something....

Re: Help with making a purchase
Yea, I've been checking Craigslist and some of the shops used inventory. I'm in central NC. There are a lot, it's just trying to figure out how to make the right decision and which cart best fits my needs.

Re: Help with making a purchase
That is why you need multiple carts...
If it were me, I would find a plain PDS cart that ran well. Age of the cart realy doesn't matter but make sure the batteries, steering and suspension are in good order. Then build what you want. Yes it will cost a little more but when you are done you will know what you have was done right. But be warned... It will never be done... There will always be something else to add... |
