Do I need to disconnect the wires from those terminals to get the reading?

No, you do not.
Also, I would have checked pack voltage as soon as tha charger did not engage to see waht you were working with. When you get the pack reading let us know what it is.

I checked the batteries individually and as a pack. Individually they seemed around 8.39-8.42. as a pack, it read 33.7. What should I do from here? Again, I really appreciate all your help!

Are your batteries installed and wired like the diagram I posted. If you have that voltage on individual batteries you should have around 50v when checking the pack.

Lied may be a stron term. Just bought a brand new set of Trojan 875's. Measured the individual readings as well as pack prior to charging. The individual batteries as well as the pack were in the 80% range new off the shelf. Took about 5 hours before charger shut off. Not sure on the reverse question so will leave that to the more knowledgeable folks.

. . . post a picture of your battery pack with cables attached so we can see what is going on . . . with only 33.7v pack, seems like 2 batterys are not being "seen" . . .

That came from an online version of your manual. You can probably find a better version
