1996 Ez-go very slow start
I need some help. I have a 1996 Ez-go 36 volt. The F/R switch is by my leg, it works on micro switches. I have a two / maint toggle. About 6 months ago I began to experience a very bad shuddering problem. I parked the cart, well about two weeks ago I came back to it, the batteries were completely dead, I recharged each one at a time. Still had very low combined voltage, the batteries were over 5 years old, so here we go, change out all 6 batteries. Get new batteries installed, solinoid clicking but nothing. Afriend of mine just upgraded his 2006 cart, so he had motor, controller, solinoid and F/R switch. Listed below are the steps that I took.
1.Swapped out solinoid (No change) 2.Tried to swap controllers (I have a 10 pin, his was a six pin) 3. changed electric motor.(No change) 4.Swapped back solinoid This made a difference, wheels would turn from gas peddel being pressed. 5.throw a seat on it and go up the driveway. very slow to start, but hauls *** and feels like it wantso continue to gain speed. No power at take off. Any ideas? |

Re: 1996 Ez-go very slow start
You are mixing apples and oranges and getting a result that is typically associated with consuming prunes.
Your cart is a DCS and your friend's parts are for a cart with a series motor. From what I can gather from your narrative, you are now running a series wound motor with a controller designed to run a shunt wound (sepex) motor. Put the original motor back into your cart and we might be able to do some troubleshooting and figure out how to fix it properly. |

Thanks Jonny B. I tried to bench test the old motor and I got nothing. Are there brushes in that motor that can be changed?

Careful or your screen name will apply
Do not bench run these motors as the one end of the armature is unsupported when not installed and damage may result. |

Thanks Scotty,
I did first try it on the cart, there was nothing. Any additional suggestions to check it would be helpful. I'll try anything once! Thanks in advance DT's |

Are you saying the cart ran with the sepex motor but not the original?

I wouldn't run the series motor with the DCS controller any more. It will wipe out the DCS controller. Take a look at the difference between the field coils and you will see why. |

Al210, you are correct, the original motor would not run, I tested the motor direct in the cart. Then tried the SEPEX motor and it worked. Very slow start.
