Freedom PDS issues
Got new batteries a couple months ago. New batteries have been doing good until a couple weeks ago. Meter says batteries have full charge. I can only ride it a couple hundred feet now before the batteries start going down and I have to push it. I was driving it a few miles before this started happening. Where do I need to look first? Bad connection? Bad battery? Cart is all stock as far as the electronics are concerned.

Re: Freedom PDS issues
What is the battery pack voltage when the cart fails?
Do yourself and your cart a favor and replace the LED bar-graph SoC meter with a DVM type. The Bar-graph types tell more lies than politicians. Also, any cable.connection getting hot? Last edited by JohnnieB; 08-20-2013 at 09:52 AM.. Reason: added comment |

Re: Freedom PDS issues
Checked the batteries and had one bad battery. Took it back and got a new one. Golf cart is still doing the same thing. Goes good and then acts like the batteries are weak. Like a loose connection somewhere. I cant figure it out. I did find one spot on the motor where it looked like one connection was getting hot. Could it possibly be a bad motor?

Re: Freedom PDS issues
Or more 'bad' batteries? What is the pack voltage dropping down to when the cart won't go? Low voltage indicates a bad power supply

Re: Freedom PDS issues
Battery pack voltage is good. Not sure the voltage, someone else tested it for me. It doesnt actaully stop going, just slows to a slow pace after about 100 ft. Called a local EZGO store. They told me it could possibly be the speed sensor on the motor or a bad controller. I checked the speed sensor last night. The sensor looked fine. I did find one little spot in the wires, but I cut them and spliced back together. It is still having the same issues.
How can I check the controller? Any other issues to look at? |

Re: Freedom PDS issues
If you don't have a handheld DVM, you need to get one.
An inexpensive one in a blister pack from a big-box store will suffice. Connect it to the battery pack's main positive and negative terminals and monitor the voltage to see if it drops abnormally low when the cart misbehaves. Also, try putting the controller in the diagnostic mode and listen for the error codes from the beeper. The text at the bottom of attached label tell you how to get controller in diagnostic mode. And list the error codes. ----- Acts like the controller is going into over temp, but could be other things. |
