Ok, this is going to sound like a pretty stupid question but since we are on the subject.

I always thought and used bottled or gallon drinking water as distilled water.

From looking on the net it appears this is not the case.
"Many health fanatics, however, are often surprised to hear me say that drinking distilled water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous."
http://www.mercola.com/article/water...lled_water.htm

So is there anything in bottled drinking water that would hurt putting into a battery or is a special trip to the auto store needed?
Seems clean to me...

Distilled water is water that has many of its impurities removed through distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and then condensing the steam into a clean container.
Drinking water or potable water is water safe enough to be consumed by humans or used with low risk of immediate or long term harm
Drinking water, like every other substance, contains small amounts of bacteria. Most of these bacteria are common ones and they are generally not harmful
bottled water is Ozonated used simply to purify the water

distilled water is available at most grocery stores

So the way I figure it bottled drinking water is a step up the purified process than distilled water...so is there any reason not to use regular drinking water other than maybe a bit more on price?

I have cases on cases of drinking water at the house.

Just a curiosity and I really should have known this 30 years ago type of question.

OR are you saying that drinking water has bacteria where distilled water does not and therefore distilled water is better to use?

Most bottled water is simply filtered tap water right out of the muni supply. Reverse Osmosis water would be pure enough provided the RO equipment is producing 0ppm water which is often not the case.

You have it backwards. Drinking water is a step behind distilled water Drinking water has minerals in it for taste and can harm batteries. Distilled water is mineral free, about as pure a water you can get!

Distilled water tastes horrible. Drinking water is not minearal free and should never be used in batteries.
