84 Club Car DS with 48v Motor
I purchased a 84 Club Car DS for next to nothing the other day. It will require a near frame-up restoration. I did not notice until I got it home that the motor is a 48v with the date code WMN N. From the research I've done, this can't be stock (correct?) as 84 DS carts were 36v. The seller said the car was "running" until the batteries were removed, which was evidently some time ago. I will be getting new battery boxes installed this week and will be looking for a set of batteries. This is where I'm looking for some guidance.. the solenoids look pretty bad, there is minimal battery wiring remaining, the F/R switch is there, as are the speed switches and the charger receptacle.
The charger that was with the cart is a Lester 36v. I seem to have a bunch of 36v equipment and a 48v motor. Is there anyway that the 48v motor was "running" on 36v batteries, solenoids, etc? Suggestions on re-wiring? Unfortunately I don't have a set of batteries to test the motor. Thanks, BW |

Re: 84 Club Car DS with 48v Motor
Welcome to BGW!
An 84 would've been 36 volt - that motor probably could have ran on 36 volts, but (I'm about to use a technical description) it would really suck. If you're gonna build it anyhow you may as well go 48 volt with an upgraded higher amp controller - contact Scottyb at carts unlimited (site sponsor) and tell him what your plans are for the cart and he can get you set up with what you need. |

Re: 84 Club Car DS with 48v Motor
Running a 48v motor in that car is going to kind of suck. You can with a 48v system get that car to run about 12 miles an hour on that motor. Assuming stock 48v motor on 48v.

Whoa! Why only 12mph? Even if the solenoids are replaced? What about with an upgraded controller?
