What Not To Do
Drag a dirt drag behind the golf cart. Granted this isn't your everyday dirt drag and I should have backed off.
Now to Lowes to get some of the double threaded screws to repair the post. My dirt drag using a couple old cutting edges for a blade. I'd say it got hot. Connection was tight, but still melted the post. 6AWG wire now, but working on my 2AWG set. |

Re: What Not To Do
Washers do not belong on the battery posts. That may be part of your problem.

Re: What Not To Do
You would suspect yes, but I honestly think it was tight. Lock washer on every connection and I rechecked all the rest and they are all tight.

Re: What Not To Do
Mud hog,
That stinks, atleast you didn't tear anything else up correct? I aerated my yard last month pulling one behind my cart. All my stuff is extreme HD and I was still surprised how hot everything got. I crept around 1 acre for 1 hour and I'm glad I stopped. I guess electric carts are really not meant to pull such resistance for a period of time. Let us know how the fix turns out. Steve |

Re: What Not To Do
I used a pair of vice grips to hold the wire to the post and drove it back to the shop so it looks to be just the post that got damaged.

Re: What Not To Do
It's even harder on electric carts with lifts and big 25 inch tires. If you had 22 inch tires you would be surprised on how much cooler it would run.

Re: What Not To Do
Looks like Home Depot carries only the plain finish hanger bolts. Are these OK or should I go with SS?
Lowes has the SS 5/16"x2" in a 10 pack for $46. Not in the store and would have to wait for them to get to the store on 4/12/14. My local lowes does have the Zinc Plated though. |
