OK that's scary. What garage has lipstick? Not mine. Maybe you've been watching "All Girls Garage" too much.

IF it brought those ladies in my shop I'd buy a case of it

That trick was passed down from my old boss's dad who is a locksmith. Not sure where the idea originally came from but it works. Small tube that is contained and he just steals them from his wife

Here are a couple of observations that may help you align the hinges.

Put the hinge pieces together and slip them in under the seat in the desired location... measure equal distance from premarked center line.

Note the slot appears to be located sort of half on/off of the front edge of the body on a stock cart. This is the proper backset (another lockset term) for the body side. Mark location with pencil

I was wondering about that. So, the slot part (the body side of the hinge) has to be sitting clear of the body, then? I guess obvuiouslt it has to to engage the hooked piece.

Put the hinges together put some two sided tape on each side of them, stick them to the body and then set the seat on where you want it, then remove the seat, and put the screws in it. If you didn't get it right the first time, rip them off and do it again

Yeah! That'll work!

I don't have the metal strap that runs along the seat edge, do you think I can do without that? Alos, it looks like there are metal inserts that provide threads in the seat bottoms. Mine doesn't have those either. Seems I could use short lag bolts instead.....
