Re: Seat hinges
Original seats have T nuts or threaded inserts put in from the top side before the upholstery is installed. Don't use lags in the wood they have few threads and will work loose rather quickly. Use machine threads (1/4 20)and drill a proper size hole for the bolts to thread in. Use large (3/16) pop rivets in the body.

Re: Seat hinges
But the upholstery is already in. Can I put the t nuts in from the exposed side?

Re: Seat hinges
I just took a look at the hardware store at T nuts. Yup, not gonna work, as my seat is already upholstered.

Re: Seat hinges
OK, I just thought of another way:
bolt the frame side of the hinge on wherever they seem to go, maybe 4 inches from the edge of the seat. place a daub of epoxy on the face of the other hinge, the one for the seat. assemble the hinge. set the seat on top of the hinge assembly. Position it appropriately let the epoxy cure CAREFULLY remove the seat and install screws to secure the seat hinge. What do you guys think? I think this is my fav idea yet. And no lipstick! |

Re: Seat hinges
Well that might work but, murphy's law might prevail and you wind up gluing the hinges together or the seat to the cart!

Re: Seat hinges
that's a good idea except the foam gets in the way ... unstaple the cover where you need to insert t-nuts and then re-staple cover back when done

Re: Seat hinges
Why not just pull the staples out holding the vinyl down in the area in front of where the hinges go , slid the t-nuts in and re-staple the upholstery.
