One other idea is make a collar out of some pipe that fits snugly over the shaft with holes drilled in it to match the shaft and drive a pin thru both.

Thrust washer against nut or just a stack of flat smooth washers.
Keep the forces away from the nut. cliff |

Perhaps grind the shoulder back a bit to get clutch to draw up tighter and the nut onto better threads, don't go goofy on the grinding and throw alignment off.

Re: Clutch shaft thread repair help needed 81 G1
The great irony - that wouldn't be that hard of a repair once upon a time for a machine shop with anyone decent with a lathe (cut to undersize thread). Depending on your diy skill set, and tools - a slow rotating jig with your choice of welding metal build-up followed by grind to round and re-tap.
Heck I'd take that as an opportunity to get tools myself - but I'm 'that guy' who can definitely lead others to places they aren't ready to go. Just would need to ensure you didn't make the end brittle with the processing so it doesn't shear during load. (or find the part... which might be easier) |

Secondary Clutches for the G1 are getting hard to find. I dont think id risk the clutch coming off and getting destroyed and try and source a new shaft

You’ll need a differential gasket as they are required to keep the proper gear spacing |
