Default Cold start problem

2014 Yamaha efi cart. On initial start up u can press the pedal far down and it’ll fire up to rpm for 1 second then shut down. The starter will continue to try and start it. You have to do that 7-10 times to get it warmed up. As soon as it warms up it stays running and runs great.

Can’t you ease into the gas pedal for the first 30 seconds and get things warmed up and moving a bit before you floor it?

Doing that it won’t fire at all. Good way to burn up the starter too I would say.

Check the plug when it won’t start. See if maybe the injector is leaking down while it sits. Or maybe pump is losing prime and takes a few seconds to build the fuel pressing back up

What would cause that prime to be lost?
Brand new pump. Checked spark plug. Checked injector open close on tester. Cleaned out injector. Fuel pump pumping a ton of fuel when ran open hose going to injector. Coils checked good.

If you pressurize the tank it will fire right up though.

Jumping in... when you say brand new pump - was it an oem or aftermarket? I am thinking you may have a low pressure (carb) pump - which will put out a lot of volume, but at a low psi - 5-10lbs max. Fuel injection runs at a higher pressure - 30-40 (full disclosure haven't worked on the EFI stuff yet, so don't know exact pressures involved)

If you pressurize the tank and it runs, it's pointing to a pressure issue in the fuel circuit. When cold, EFI systems will increase fuel delivery for cold start. If there isn't sufficient pressure/volume - it will not be able to supply demand and leans out.

On EFI i would expect to see around 40psi.

I’d agree with Steve. Sounds like a fuel pump problem. I’d echo the question if it is aftermarket or OEM Yamaha. And why was it replaced to begin with?

Was ordered from Nivel down in FL. Should be OEM. Calling my rep tomorrow to find out. Originally wasn't running at all. Like I said you could pressurize the tank and it fires up every time. Gonna get them to send me another OEM pump tomorrow and new injector. Its 100% getting spark.
