That makes sense. Thanks

I pulled the motor, which appears to be the original Hitachi. Lots of carbon buildup, and the brushes were not moving freely. Cleaned her up real good with di-electric cleaner and wet sanded down the armature to remove all the buildup and reinstalled. Immediately noticed better performance, ran 19-20mph, with no jerking and the cart did not shut itself off; everything seems fine.......But, the motor is still pretty hot to the touch.
I ran the battery from 100-65% pretty quickly, full throttle, up and down the street for about 30 mins and the cart did great. However, when I was done the motor was really hot, I don't smell anything like I did before which I assume means I cleaned all the carbon out that was getting hot, but curious if anyone knows what the operating temp of that DM430-06A Hitachi motor should be under load for a while?

So, "hot to the touch" is really subjective. If you can hold your hand on it for any time at all, that would probably not be a damaging temperature.

Sorry, but I don't have any specs for your motor.

I will direct you to some great reading about the subject.

Are you running stock wheels and tires?

Agreed, it is subjective. I can hold my hand on it, so it's probably not "that hot".
Good read on the subject and I appreciate the input. I am running low profile tires. I will get a temp gun and see what it reads after a long run. All in all the cart has been running great, it seems like stuck brushes and carbon buildup was the culprit.
