![]() Hey y'all...
My old '86 cc flathead is apart. It was knocking terrible... with a slight amount a throttle, the knock becomes a really loud rattle. What we found: Broken oil splasher at the bottom of the rod (little metal bracket looking thing). Cracked piston. The rod is scratched up as well. The oil splasher must have traveled around the engine a bit. What we are doing: Machined cylinder to match new .25 over piston, had the valves done, and plan to install new rod and oil splasher. Other parts pass visual inspection. My question: What could cause the oil splasher to break off? What else should we be checking while it is apart? Anyone ever have a flathead apart? ![]() Thanks! Rob |

![]() Check rivets that attatch plastic drive gear to cam, thats where mine let loose. I read that another forum member replaced the rivets with bolts or screws, nylocks and used locktite.

![]() Sweet... thank you!
Would that explain the breaking of the oil splasher? |

![]() In my case I would have to say no because mine splasher was fine, it just busted the piston.

![]() Somewhere in the back of my head I think a repair guy said that the splasher was pretty fragile and sometimes just broke without any help.
