Default Need some advice on a 1986 DS

I just bought it and will start cleaning it up next weekend. It already has a lift kit, rear seat, and a light kit(I will probably have to fix)

Is there anything I should look out for or need to take of first. I know it needs brakes so of course that will come first. Just wondering as far as upgrades. My other cart is a 1989 electric Club car and I went all the way through it.

I have an '87 and have turned just about every single bolt and screw on it since I got it. Post up some pics!

I will as soon as I get off.

I have a ton of questions about it, but trying to do a little research on my own to see if I can find the answers.

I totally redid my 1989 Electric Club car so this is my next project, it is the one in my avatar.

Here is a few I think I may have to address 1st, keep in mind this cart does run but it just doesn't have brakes.

I noticed the belt is real lose

Seems to have a new spring

I believe the gasket where the carb mounts to the motor is leaking and I am wondering what is missing where the orange arrow is pointing

I will need to lube the cable going from the FnR switch to the tranny i believe... it is stiff as all get out

I will also have to buy new exhaust and a new muffler

The belt is supposed to be very loose at rest, it tightens up when the motor spins.

ok thanks, I thought it may be way to lose since I can squeeze it till it touches.

any Idea what goes to the orange arrow in the pic with the Carb? I noticed another line coming off the bottom of the motor but it was capped off with a screw.

How fast are these puppies suppose to run? I think this one might hit 11-12 mph. My electric cart smokes it. It shimmers and shakes when you try and move slowly, is that from have a torque spring installed?

I have a torque spring and mine doesn't shudder. You have the old-style 1984-1987.5 drive/driven clutch setup, I've heard they can be problematic. If one of your clutches is the issue, I'd convert both clutches to the '88-up style. They are a better design. But you do have to get both, the new style clutches move the belt closer to the motor.

Put the cart in maintenance mode and run the motor. Watch the clutches and make sure the belt is moving up and down the sheaves smoothly as you gas it.

My cart will do 20mph even with 22" tires on it. You'll need to adjust or remove the governor to get that.
