Default Good elect but slow to turn over

I have a 95 gasser that's been having an issue turning over. It seems to have a few "dead spots" and will eventually get to where it will spin and turn over.
I just replaced the battery because it wouldn't hold a charge. I replaced the micro switches, drive belt, and starter brushes a year ago. The brushes are still good.
It just has a hard time turning over...tries....moves a bit...tries again..and then will finally start to spin.

Could the starter/generator just be worn out?...maybe a flat spot in the windings?
I checked the voltage and its all good when at idle and at a higher speed.

make sure your valves are adj. correctly (.005) if not you'll have compression issues, make sure battery is good, I had a battery that showed good on a meter but under load it was no good, auto parts store will do a load test on it for free. I would check the battery first, start out cheap then work your way up.

I just bought a new battery last night and then checked everything on the meter...all showing charging correctly.
I did tighten the S/G belt and it seemed to help some but there's still like a "flat spot" before it turns over quickly.
Now it seems to not have the same power it once did.
