Default Hard cold starts

I have a 98 club car ds. It runs great but if I dont ride it for a while it takes a bit to crank & move. After the initial trouble & running it a bit there are no more issues. Only seems to happen when the car has been sitting for a while. Thanks for any input. I appreciate it.

I’d start with the basics. New spark plug (NGK BPR4ES), give the carb a good cleaning, set the valves (.005 intake and exhaust) and see how that works out for you.

How long is "a while" ?
Most carts that sit for more than 2-3 weeks the fuel will evaporate out of the fuel bowl and the bowl has to refill with fuel before it will pull fuel into the engine to be able to run.

Good point. And on that note if your fuel tank vent is not functioning it can either cause it to pressurize and flood the engine, or pressurize and at night when it cools off and depressurizes suck all the fuel out of the lines and pump and lose prime. If this is the case loosening the gas cap just a tad while it’s parked can “fix” it. Then replace the tank vent.

Which reminds me I still need to replace my tank vent

Well it can sit for a month or 2. Its weird the way it acts. If I hold the gas down & give it a little push it'll start up. I was thinking maybe it was a clutch issue or something.

Maybe clarify the condition…

Does the engine spin but just not start? Or does it take a few seconds of holding the pedal down before the engine starts to spin?

The motor spins but the cart doesn't want to start moving. Like I said, if you hold the gas pedal down & give it a push it'll take off. After you drive it around a bit it will take off when ya push the gas and the problem won't occur again till I let it sit for a while again. I usually only use this car when I go camping.

Is the engine running and revving up when it won’t take off? Or just spinning with the starter?

Push, and hold in the choke button for a few seconds while cranking at first start.

I'll try to get a video of it this weekend & post it on here. Then I'll begin doing all the things mentioned so far. Thanks for the help.
