Torque Spring...
Will a torque spring lower top speed?
Might consider for my 2001 DS that has high speed gears. I just don't want to lower my top speed. I have it right in the sweet spot. :) |

Re: Torque Spring...
Is the cart lifted with big wheels and tires or is it stock? 8:1 or 6:1? What kind of speeds are you seeing now and any idea how many hours on the engine? What kind of terrain do you ride on? Grass? Pavement? Hills? Flat?
Lot of variables here for anyone to be able to say yes or no. But the FE290 is somewhat anemic to begin with. If your cart is stock height, stock wheels/tires, drive flat pavement in Florida, and your engine is healthy probably not much effect on top speed, if any. Start adding more load and things change. The purpose of the spring is to try and force the cart into a lower “gear” harder and hold that lower gear longer. Once you get to a certain speed centrifugal force takes over and the belt will run all the way to the center. But start hitting hills and stuff where the cart naturally slows a bit, if the engine is maxed out to begin with trying to hold it, it’s not going to be able to maintain that speed/centrifugal force on the clutch and it’s going to slow down. |

Re: Torque Spring...
I already have the high speed gears and i'm running about 24 max mph on stock size tires. I'm just curious of the effect the torque spring would have on top speed. I'm 99% paved roads but we've got hills up here in PA! :)
I forget which ratio but i'm sure you can tell just by the MPH with stock size tires. Stock motor. It seems to be running really well though yet. I've had it for maybe 10 years. Bought from golf course and swapped the body and wheels and added back seat. I think high speed gears are by far the most effective upgrade you can do on this cart. By the sounds of things the spring wouldn't effect top speed then? Just hold the lower "gear" longer? |

Re: Torque Spring...
If your running a stock duty belt, a torque spring might wear it out faster. Consider a HD belt they're about $50 on amazon, but you get what you pay for, and they last longer.
