Used Batteries
There is an add in our local paper for Trojan batteries. I called and the guy says he works at a golf course that changed maint. contractors for their carts all their batteries were changed even though they were under a year old. He aquired these batteries and is selling them for $55.00 each. My batteries seem to still be OK, but there 5yrs. old. My question is, should I buy these now or wait and get new ones with a warrenty?

Re: Used Batteries
Load Test or hydrometer test your batteries to determine their true condition.

Re: Used Batteries
If they guy won't let you load test them tell him to stick it. For $55 a piece he should.

Re: Used Batteries
Also, 1 year or so on a golf course will be about the same number of cycles most people will put on a pack in a couple of years or so. Understand the date coding on the Trojans and do what scottyb suggests. Good luck! |

Re: Used Batteries
If they are good, I would not mind getting a couple to convert my cart from 36 to 48 volt.

Re: Used Batteries
I don't understand why they would remove 1 year old batteries from a fleet. The only thing I can think of is they burned them dry. (never added water)
New carts are have a 5 year warrenty. There had to be a reason. If the carts started dying on the course, the owner would be very angry and require someone to fix the problem. If he had a maintenance person that didn't maintain his fleet, That would explain the new mainteance people. Those batteries were probably dry and this guy filled them up and is ..... I would stay away from used batteries. Especially at $55.00 ea. You're better off buying new with a warrenty, then you know you'll get 5 years of use. |
