Right click and drag and your entire confession to
last nights debauchery is open to the world. I hate it when I drool during my putter snoozes. |

Re: New 86 owner with starter question
I haven’t physically checked the battery connections, however on mine, (as opposed to 92 gas CC won't start) the solenoid clicks and the measured voltage on the starter is above 12V and the starter eventually runs. The belt was loose and I tightened it, same results either way.

Here is a quick picture of the main player of things to look at
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...oilandkill.jpg not just the parts can be funky , but check wires for defective cracks tears rusty connections ...etc. and that means battery also. :) |

Re: New 86 owner with starter question
Thanks Gleemo
That’s some good information. However my starter runs and the cart starts just fine if I hold the accelerator down long enough. I am more incline to think it is a starter problem because when I press the accelerator, I hear the solenoid click and the starter does nothing for about 1 to 2 seconds, then begins to run slowly at first as if it is pushing against the compression stroke of the engine. Once it gets past that point the starter spins fine and the engine starts right up. I took the rubber covers off the brushes today and blew a lot of carbon dust out. I didn’t remove the brushes but they look quite worn since the retaining spring was about at the end of its travel. I guess I will throw in a set of brushes and see what happens. |

Re: New 86 owner with starter question
It could be that the contacts on your solenoid are burnt and getting high resistance. The longer you hold the throttle the more chance that they have to eventually make contact. You could test this by shorting out the two big terminals and turning on the ignition. The engine should then start immediately.
If you suspect a weak starter then how about removing the starter belt and hence the load and seeing if that improves the performance. If it does your starter probably could do with a brush change. Dave |

Re: New 86 owner with starter question
If I remember right, I did jump the solenoid and got the same results. I thought about removing the belt and see how the start/gen runs but it may run OK with no load so that won’t tell me much.
