2002 48 volt charging/battery problem
I have a 2002 48 volt club car that I have had for 2 seasons. The cart had new batteries when I bought it. The cart work fine in December, but when I went to run it this last weekend, it would not move. The battery charger is plugged in, and will come on if you unplug it and plug it back in. When I look at the batteries, 2 of the batteries had a lot of corrosion/gel-like substange around the cover that holds the 2 batteries together. I cleaned the batteries up and hooked up everything, and plugged the charger in. The charger comes on and runs for quite a while, but the cart still will not run. The lights come on, but when I put the cart in reverse, the buzzer will NOT come on. I do hear a click when I push the accelarator pedal, but nothing runs. The cart is in the "RUN" mode.
How do I check to see if the batteries are charged? I do have a volt meter. Could there be something else whong with the cart besides the batteries? Thanks, Greg |

Re: 2002 48 volt charging/battery problem
More than likely a bad connection. If they set for a while connections will get bad. Take a wench and loosen each connection and retighten to make sure they are good. Do not remove them, just loosen and maybe wiggle it and retighten good. Fully charged each battery should read between the high 8's to low 9's. Take this reading about an hour after charging so the batteries have time to settle. Then take a full pack reading and it should be around 52 volts or better.

Re: 2002 48 volt charging/battery problem
Can I check each battery with everything hooked up, or do I need to unhook each battery to check them?
Thanks, Greg |
