Default still cant get '05 txt to idle !!!

Sure could use someone who knows alot more than me!!! have a 2005 txt, 295 motor, stock everything. Question is I cant get the motor to idle, it either is zero rpm or when i depress the pedal approx. 1/2" in starts but immediately goes to approximately 1800 rpm. Have check cables, no kinks, idle screw is not even touching the stop, and also wondered does the butterfly always stay wide open? Any suggestions would sure help. Thanks guys

Maybe I don't understand your questions but most stock carts don't idle. The motor will not run unless you depress the gas pedal.

The butterfly not closing down with the throttle is your problem... is the linkage broken?

Hey Scotty, thanks for the response. The butterfly is only hooked up to the choke, that's the only way to get the butterfly to do anything. Otherwise it just stays in the wide open position. I push the pedal all the way to the floor and there is nothing else hooked to it. I dont think anyone previously had messed with it as it still had the cover plate riveted on to keep people from doing anything to the carb. Any suggestions?

There is another butterfly in the back of the carburetor that opens and closes with the throttle linkage ........ that's the one I was thinking about, not the choke butterfly on the cable. Check and see it the throttle linkage needs adjustment. Find the stop on the throttle lever on the carb and inspect it to see if it is coming all the way back to zero. If yes is there a screw adjustment to lower the idle on this lever?

May be that the throttle plate has lost screws or come loose and is not closing?
That is usually a club car trick?

should you be able to , when barely pushing the gas pedal, get it to run without it engaging the clutch?
