Default Gas running out of left side of FUEL PUMP

Sorry for the mistake in the title. these are late 1980's club cars. Counter clockwise rotation. fuel pump has three ports, top sucking from tank, bottom to the crankcase and left port gas runs out when triing to start. Seems when i remove the bottom hose from the pump its pushing rather than pulling. I am lost at this point.

I just discovered that the crankcase line to the fuel pump does push (and pull when not pushing) called a pulse. The fuel pump is a diaphram style pump designed to work that way. The gas should be coming out of the left side fitting into the carb. If it leaks from the body you got seal problems.

^^

That is correct, it will be pushing and pulling air from the vaccum pulse line to run the pump diaphragm and pump the fuel.

I may be misunderstanding the original question or picturing it wrong in my head (or perhaps my cart is different than yours) but it seems to me that the port on the left side (meaning left side as you look at the pump while its mounted) should be the port that your fuel line going to the carb is mounted on........... That would be why the fuel is coming out of that port, because the pump is designed to pump fuel out of that port and to the carb. Is there another line coming off of the pump going to the carb? I'm pretty sure my pump only has three ports: pickup from the tank, the vaccum pulse line and the outlet to the carb.

Again, maybe I am misunderstanding something or picturing it wrong in my head.

Instead of starting another thread I'll ask my question here.......

I'm just now getting my cart ready to run but have a fuel pump issue. I removed the valve cover & tapped a brass fitting in it.......done.......all good. But now when I turn the engine over it seems to pump pressure into the gas tank as I can see gas (used clear fuel lines) going into the filter & pump from the fuel tank..........but gas is also getting sucked into the valve cover.......& none is reaching the feed to the carb. I've shut it down after turning the engine over for a couple seconds as soon as I see gas headed to the valve cover. Is there something I'm missing? Should there be some kind of one-way valve in line with the feed from the valve cover?

Just to review..........as I'm looking at the engine from the passenger side with the gas tank in place (this is a 1988 CC with a dmax 16 installed.......stock gas tank with pulse pump).......the left side of the pump draws from the tank......check.............the right side of the pump is the pulse feed from valve cover............& the bottom feed goes to the carb.............I hooked it up the same way it was when I got it (with the original engine in it.)

Ummm... NO!

FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE:

Left - from the tank
Right - to the carb
Bottom - Impulse line

My factory installed fuel pump action hook-ups are when looking from rear of cart to front.
Left fuel out to carb, Right fuel in from tank, bottom line to crankcase. Nothing on top except the brass screen front top. Hope this helps, I'd love to send a photo but not smart enough.
