Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
Help!!!!!!!
We have a Yamaha G16a gas golf cart that quits on us right in the middle of doing "rounds" at our Storage Park. it appears to be a sticking Solenoid, as it works again after banging on it or letting it cool down after sticking? i dont seem to be able to find anyone that has one for sale in Utah and everyone special orders them here. Does anyone have a good source on a high quality, heavy duty one? the one that is in it is a White Rodgers Type 586-5 and not a Yamaha Brand. i cant seem to find a way to download a "free" parts manual to isolate the exact part number. Any ideas or suggestions? thanks |

Re: Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
The question is whether or not I actually need the part? Mine works when it is cold but seems to stick when it gets hot. (referring to the solenoid not the outside temp). Do these things always get hot or is this a sign. One is weak? Also if you shake of tap the solenoid it unsticks itself?

Re: Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
What your reffering to is when a solenoid gets welded shut/open...It is normal for some heat on a solenoid due to it constantly being open(unlike a car solenoid which is only there to send voltage to the starter and then the alternator takes over). However it is not normal to have to hit it or tap it...its time to replace, you have seen this on reg cars where you can tap the starter to activate the solenoid or knock loose the brushes...but its not fixed your just buying time...

Re: Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
So the next question then is what brand is the best and most durable brand to buy? The White Rodgers brand is the Grainger brand and I dont know if that is a great brand as much of what Grainger sells is more mid quality and not top quality stuff, in my experience. Any suggestions or ideas? At about $100 incl shipping it is not something that we want to change with frequency and the one we have on it looks fairly new.

Re: Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
As a Yamaha dealer I'm prone to tell you to always buy Yamaha Authorized parts...but as just another forum chatter I can tell you that all new Yamahas come with Trombetta solenoids and arent made by Yamaha anyway...but they are very well made..

Re: Help!!! solenoid/Coil needed
I use Snow-Plow Solenoids on our Ez-Gos'.Any Continuous-Duty solenoid should work.Even if you just get one temporarily until you get the Yamaha unit.Hope this helps.
