Hot rod, you need to take a few days, and read this whole Yamaha site on G1's. You have much to learn about golf carts and doing maintenance on them. Till you know what you have, and what its doing or not doing, you don't know what you've got, nor do we. Sounds like your buying parts you may not need.

Make the car run, before you put performance parts on it.

From the factory the cart is set up to shut off when you let off the gas pedal.

They can be made to idle by disconnecting a wire on the passenger side rear fender well, but I don't remember exactly which one off the top of my head.

I'm pretty sure it's the black wire with the white stripe that you unplug to make the cart idle. You have to shut it off with the key then.

thanks for the advice..i've read everything on here concerning g1's...one reason i started this theard is because on here i read servial posts on how to get g1 cart's to idle;;;so got me thinking if mine should or not....had to replace the parts i've replaced due to total wore out;;drive belt was almost broke into;..carb leaked vacume around shaft so bad only way i could keep running was having choke pulled out;;replaced it it now starts and runs without choke..everything i've replaced was totaly wore out to bad to repair;;
put power clutch spring in because i'll be using cart to pull my dragster with..need everything it has and what i can get out of it for the use i will be using cart for..

The G1 actually is supposed to idle long as you hold the pedal down enough to trip the run switch. The carb should be set to idle slowly, not enough to move the cart. They usually start faster set that way.

All golf carts only run with the pedal down, a few work carts run all the time like a car. Most golf carts you have to stop the engine to shift gears.

A cut sheave will also help with towing, the HD kevlar belt might help too.
