How do I add a tach to my 2000 cc ds gas fe290 engine
I was wanting to add a tach to my 2000 cc ds fe290 gas golf cart. I was wondering what kind of tach & where do I hook it up to my motor. If anyone has a wiring diagram that would be helpful. Also, what is a good name brand tach to buy.
How many rpms will I pull? Mods: 25" mud tires 6" lift Modified back clutch from cart part plus Bigger jet for carb from cart parts plus K&N air filter |

Re: How do I add a tach to my 2000 cc ds gas fe290 engine
I use the Glowshift Elite series tachs. I really like the look of them. Here is a pic of mine mounted on my 2007 Precedent. I have the 3 inch model.
The only problem is that there is no hook-up on these engines for most analogue style tachs. They require a special sensor and some mechanical ability to install. BTW, I would think you can probably pull about 4000 to 4200 rpm relatively safely. Of course, the decision to rev over factory spec is at your own risk. Contact me via pm if you are interested. Ed |

Re: How do I add a tach to my 2000 cc ds gas fe290 engine
heres where i got mine for half price almost..not sure about your motor but this tack works with single and up to 8 cylinders..easy to set up and use..it comes with 2 ways to hook it up..the way you will use will be a sensor that clamps on the plug wire..it works great and not cheap looking like i figured before i ordered it..

Many times the clamp on plug wire sensors do not work either at all or do not work reliably. I manufacture a magnetic sensor that mounts on the rear of Club Car FE290/FE350 engines and picks up the pulse from a magnet mounted on the S/G pulley. It is pretty simple but takes a little bit of mechanical ability to install. It works great on the Glowshift Elite series tachs. I have been told it also works on the Equus electronic tachs. Anyway, I don't manufacture them commercially, but I can make them available, if someone on the forum wants one. PM me for details if interested. Ed Last edited by etech; 04-20-2013 at 02:47 PM.. Thanks Ed!
I've read through some of your previous posts with the difficulties of the clamp on sensor, and I know that some of the "wrap around" wires aren't all that effective either, I was just looking for a bit more insight! |
