Hello Bob,

I messaged the dealership to find out how much EZGO would charge for the 350 Controller upgrade. With the 14” wheels with low profile tires, and after reprogramming that Controller, what speed coul I look forward to? Is 33-35 realistic? What is your charge for reprogramming the Controller? Thank you sir.

I cannot give you an answer to that. Low profile can mean any one of a large number of actual tire diameters. Since you are limited to about 20.5" without a lift kit in most cases, that size will usually yield a top speed in the 32-33 MPH range. But if they put on a narrower tire and trim or remove the inner plastic from the wheel opening, that can increase the rear tire diameter that will fit.

I'll need to know the diameter of the rear tires before I can program the controller. I must recalibrate the motors current map properly for the tire size, if it exceeds 20.5" in diameter. We can make guesses, but actual speed will be determined by the final effective gear ratio. We cannot exceed 9500 RPM at the motor, so tire diameter is a critical dimension, ie the distance the tire travels per revolution.

225x30x14" tires calculate to 19.31" in diameter. The actual diameter will probably be different but should be fairly close.

That helps a lot. Lets do the math...

225 / 25.7 = 8.754863813229572" width
30 is 30% of the width. We multiply by 2 (top and bottom sidewalls), so...
60% of width = 5.252918287937743" total sidewall height from beads to treads
And we add the nominal wheel diameter (14")
Tire diameter = 19.25291828793774"

Not too good for reaching your goal of 33-35 MPH. There is no point in going to a 350 Amp controller because the stock 235 Amp controller can take you to the RPM limit with power to spare for hills...

You're probably looking at 29 to 30 MPH top speed with those tires. Actual tire size varies a little from the mathematical tire size.

egreg, here's some unasked for advice:

Bob reprogrammed my controller, and it will do 27+. I have the extra speed if I need it. However, these top-heavy carts with narrow footprint and golf-course suspensions were never designed to go such speeds. Hence I rarely ever go that fast-- a straight line white-knuckle drive, drag race style with zero maneuverability, is not a relaxing one.

Thank you. I previously had a Club Car Precedent with a lift kit. It would go 28 mph. That was insane. I am done with lifted carts. Never again. The only time I really drive fast is on the street and that is to and from the clubhouse. It is a straight shot. I could not go back to the clubs 14 mph carts.
