Default solenoid warm

How hot is normal for a solenoid on an EZGO 36 volt 1999? My cart stopped running and during my investigation I found the battery cable going to the solenoid had corroded and broken away from the solenoid lug. The area looked burned around the lug, insulation on the 2 small red wires had melted. I realize the power cable probably arced as it was deteriorating and would have set up some heat. I made up a new power cable and fixed the 2 red wires made the connections and the cart ran great. After using it for about 30 minutes I felt the solenoid and it was hot to touch, didn't burn me but it was hot. Is the normal?

.

It is not normal. However if the replacement battery cable is not made up of the proper size cable and/or not crimped properly with proper lug and if the solenoid stud not cleaned properly and the connection tight, a poor connection here will generate heat and may cause the solenoid to heat through the stud. You have either a bad connection or solenoid.

Everything is tight, I think the cable is original cable, I put all new ends on and crimped them correctly. I do have another solenoid on the way due to the burned places.
I may put a larger power cable to the solenoid.
Thanks

The solenoid is damaged from the failed cable. The stock solenoid is marginal when new. Get that thing out of there or it will keep leaving you stranded .
