Default Speed questions

I have a 2001 txt with almost new batteries and the cart is in cherry condition, the top speed I can get is 17 MPH and that is on a speed checker near the school, I checked it several times in either direction it is always 17 mph. Any way to boost that say, up to 20 or better with out modifying the cart with more batteries etc. it is a 36v system with a jakes 5 inch lift kit and big knobby tires.

Have a friend with a 36v txt - he added a speed gear and his cart hauls.. probably in the 25mph range

IMO worthwhile to upgrade to 48 v. In my signature medalist journal I go through the process.

Different gearing in the differential. Check Cart Parts Plus, a forum sponsor, for your application.

Is yours a PDS? Do you already have the freedom personality plug?

At 17 it probably doesn’t have a chip and the tires have gotten it to that. Put the cart in neutral, key off, switch the fnr from neutral to reverse 5 times ending on neutral. Count the number of beeps that follow. 1 in no chip, 2 and 3 are hill chips and 4 is freedom. 4 should get you 19.5 on stock tires.

Put high speed gears in a lifted cart with stock electronics and it will be so bad you will want to sell it. Get the cheap freedom plug instead. Then start saving money for a new controller, because your current configuration will finish-off the stock controller.

buy an upgrade kit from carts unlimited and be done with it.. thats what i did and its amazing. my cart runs 25mph and has plenty of torque for hills and passengers.

Try to replace the speed magnet on the motor. Tricks the speed sensor into thinking the motor is only spinning half as fast as it is. With 23” tires you should be close to 25mph off a fresh charge.

The ~$6 freedom plug is truly the cheapest option for now. It will get you over 20mph, probably 25 if the stock controller and current batteries can push it. Torque will not improve, nor decrease. (HS gears will kill torque, magnet costs more than freedom plug)

My mistake, they are currently $7.95 on eBay.
