Water in batteries never goes down?

So I bought my first cart last February and it had new batteries. I joined the forum here and learned to watch the water levels, especially since I'm in FL. I check the batteries monthly, and it doesn't seem like the water levels ever change. I guess I just assumed I would be refilling them more. Anything I should be concerned about?

50.9 or better. New or newer batteries dont use much water . the more they age the more water will be needed

I've got a 36 volt cart. Full charge usually registers around 40-41.

So ok, since they were new I shouldn't be worried about it? I just didn't want to affect the life of my batteries.

With new batteries the water level doesn’t lose as much as a old set.As batteries get old they will use more water

sorry my mind go to 48 volt automatically

36 volt pack at 100% is 38.2 volts or better . I would still keep a eye on them a least once a month , they should be 1/4 to 1/2 above the plates .

I'm in FL also. I can verify older batteries use much more water. My 36v cart has T105's 4 years 4 months old. Have to check and fill every 2 weeks at best. They were poorly maintained when I bought the cart almost 2 years ago, so I thought they would be toast by now. Going to 48v when they give up the ghost.

Different brand batteries have different at-rest voltages at 100% SoC (State of Charge).

The 40V-41V you mentioned is probably someplace between the on-charge voltage when the charger shut off and the at-rest voltage, so it isn't valid for estimating SoC. At-rest voltage for SoC estimations is measured from about 12 hours up to about 24 hours after the charge shuts off.


On the other hand, 40.5V is the recommended float charge voltage for a 36V pack of Trojan brand batteries, so you might have a charger that has a float charge stage connected.

What make/model batteries and what make/model charger?

My batteries used virtually no water the first year and 500 miles. But now I need to top off every 200 miles.
