Default Battery Restorer type addatives.

What's people thoughts on this stuff. I see it all over ebay. Claiming to desulfate the batteries..Yada yada.

I guess you can put it in new batteries to help them keep better longer...as well as The claim to add it to old tired batteries? Some is a liquid and some is a powder you mix up. The stuffs pretty cheap really. If it works it's worth it ...even half works.

Just wondering if anyone has used it and your experience?

Battery Addatives? There are none that work! All you do is thin your wallet by a little bit....

Pretty much what I thought!

I was sure someone has tried them. If so I'm not making fun of you or anything . Heck it was worth a try for what The $15 or whatever they cost.

I was thinking surely someone here has used them.

If you try a snake oil remedy, be prepared to buy a new set of batteries immediately or in the near future.

What they do is cause some of the sulfated surface of the plates to slough off and expose more of a more chemically active surface. Ideally, this will improve the battery's performance, but shorten its lifespan. However the sloughed off material is conductive, so if it doesn't settle to the bottom of the cells and stay there, the plates are shorted together.

Basically, it is one of those "Fun while it lasts" situations predicated with a "If it works" situations.

On the other hand, some of the electronic desulfating devices have merit.

However, there are no magic potions or machines that will keep batteries alive forever. Proper charging and good maintenance are the best way to obtain long battery live.

I swear by the stuff...

I once added it to a set of batteries that would hardly hold a charge and it turned the plates inside into solid gold.

Still would not hold a charge, but had batteries full of fools gold.

I looked at some you tube videos and went the epsom salt route last year on my 6 volt dekas. My batts were pretty bad - plates exposed a few times, left off the charger for months, bad charger - pretty much everything you are not supposed to do. They went from holding 75% to maybe 80%. It did not seem to improve discharge rate very much. I probably could have used them for a while longer since i only take short trips, but they were about 5 years old and it gave me a perfect excuse to convert to 48v with some new trojans.
