Default Cable lug crimper

Is a ten ton unit enough or should I get a sixteen?

10-ton will do great, but I also have a manual crimper. Looks like a pair of bolt cutters.

Some folks get a 20 Ton. I bought a 16 ton. I haven't used it yet so I can't tell you how well it works.
$33 on Flebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Ton-Hydra...53.m2749.l2649

Be careful with the chinese imports. They have metric inserts that are not an exact fit for AWG sizes. 2AWG is a pain because the only size that can get a good bite is a little too small and over crimps if you are not careful.

I have that YDK-70 and it works great. I was sceptical about how long it would last, but for the price I gave it a shot. Lasted a year so far and I've crimped over 100 lugs and it still works fine.

The 10 ton is more compact and I would rather have it. I only have two carts to build cables for right now but I'm sure I will get recruited to build them for a couple of friends in the future.

I'm considering getting one of these. What size cable were you crimping? Does it leave "ears" on the side of the crimped lug? Thanks.

That comes from using the wrong size dies. All of these chinese imports use metric dies that are not quite correct for AWG sizes. It is a fine line between getting a good grip on the wire and squeezing the metal out the sides when crimping.

The MM dies are all I see listed.
