Rear end gear oil

Hello .great Info From Everybody. On The Rearend Issue. Im Getting Ready To Change Mine Im Going To Try Harley Full Syn. 5w50 .what Do You. Think. Thank;s

Noob here, pls bear with. I have an '89 gas Marathon. The differential on my model has the vent tube which must be removed to check/fill. The manual refers to an EZ-GO "service dipstick that's used to check the oil for this configuration. No can find! I'm thinkin' a coat hanger, but how would I know how much is enough?

I know if I remove the differential cover, change the fluid (needs it anyway, I'm sure), pour in the requisite 8-10 oz of 30W non-detergent (thanks to previous poster, that was great!), then use my hillbilly dipstick, I'll KNOW where it should be. But until I get to doing that, anybody have another suggestion?

Bamboozled in Brazil (Indiana, that is)

I know this is a very old thread, but I found it very helpful. The reason for non-detergent oil, by the way, is that there is not a filter, and non-detergent precipitates out the dirt so that it just sits safely in the bottom of the differential.
