Default Motor brake stinks ohms fine

I have a used motor brake I took off my cart a while back because it was basically toasted. I was cleaning up around in my shed yesterday and noticed it was about to toss it and decided to ohm it. It ohmed at 27-28 ohms. I took it off the cart a long time ago because the disk is basically fried on it. The brake currently on my cart may have been fried from a lightning strike is there any reason taking this coil out and putting it in to replace the lightning strike one wouldn't work? Also have any of you cart pros ever had a brake coil ohm good but was basically a false reading and ending up being bad?

Switching the coil should be ok. And, yes, many of the brakes I find bad have coils that test within Ezgo spec.

I got that brake broke apart finally. The plastic coil housing had gotten so hot it melted to the spacer plate inside. It still ohms fine. I have a new OEM brake ordered to put on this cart. I was basically wanting this spare part to use as a test piece to take with me to my farm incase the new part doesnt come before I leave to go up. I wonder if using the plastic dip for tools would reseal the coil. Or maybe varnish it like electric motor windings to seal it up.

Well, I suppose it's worth a shot. Just be sure it is totally sealed, and the product used can take the heat.
