Default Series motor. Looking for an upgraded controller

I have a 36v series motor txt cart. It dosent have a controller currently and I would like to get good one. Curtis,Alltrax,Navitas. I was honestly looking at the Navitas with the “on the fly” controller but just saw in a recent thread where Bob had said even their 600 amp dosent perform as well as a stock 235 amp Curtis. So now I’m not so sure which way to go. I definitely want run the motor at 48 volts and am considering sending it to Plum Quick to have it upgraded as well. What’s a fella to do?

Bob is referring to the rxv controllers, which are AC.

The best way to start this whole conversation is to outline how you will use your cart and what performance expectations you have.

Flat?
Hills?
Hunting cart or pavement queen?
# of passengers?
Lifted?
What size (measured) tires?
Desired speed?

What year is your cart?

Most guys here go with the Alltrax. I thought the Navitas was pricier?

I rebuilt my 36v 2001 series txt and have the ALLTRAX sr48500 with the fn switch. I can dial the power down from a knob on the dash. I have a leaf lithium pack that charges to 58v, and the cart will do 32 easily. My motor is custom from emp. There is an option to have a contactor type switch to change it from a speed to torque motor, but I didn’t need it.

Just trying to give you an idea of what can be done.

Quite a few folks on here, including myself have upgraded their 36v Series carts to 48v with Alltrax controllers. My cart started off as a 1994 Medalist 36v (early version of the TXT) I went with the SR48400 controller and the 400 amp solenoid with 2 gauge wires, as my cart is mainly used to play golf. (you will have to get a 48v charger as well)
The conversion is almost 2yrs old and am still using the original stock 36v motor.
For me, it's pretty cool to be able to hookup my laptop up to the controller and change the speed and torque settings in the controller as well as keeping an eye on the other settings the Alltrax monitors.
In addition the support you get from other members on this site is awesome.
Good luck in whatever direction you decide on.

IndyNick,

The motor test is going great. No problems. Temperatures of the FNR, motor, controler, cables, and solenoid are all well below normal.

Top speed increased @130%, while torque is up @120% on the hill climb test.

Pack voltage drop x when I drop the hammer. I continue cruising between 6 - 10 mph for about 10 minutes. That includes about 6 to 8 more hammer drops. When I return and allow the cart to sit the pack voltage returns to @98%.

Notes:
X = I have the number in my garage and i will update.
Hammer drop = equals pedal to the floor until cart reaches top speed, and hold until I need to turn around to come back up the "strip."
