Exclamation 89 club car 36v stays hot, no neutral

My 89 , 36v club car with v-glide, won't go into neutral. By that I mean, when in FWD or reverse, it goes hot before I touch the gas pedal. In fact, when hooked up to 36v, as soon as I engage fwd or reverse, it just starts smoking. I've disconnected b4 any damage but it was starting to arc weld at the cable-terminal when touching it.

I noticed one day the car was 'creeping' but was on grass so it wasn't too obvious, when on asphalt, it was very noticeable, I popped into neutral, made sure nothing was hung up, engaged in fwd again and it took off at a fast idle.

I can not hook up power without seeing sparks. The cart is old but in very good shape, all wires are clean and orderly, no frays or corrosion.

Arghhh..... any ideas on the least amount of troubleshooting to find the culprit?

If the cart is moving as soon as You put it in gear even with the Key switch OFF, the Solenoid is welded and it needs to be replaced.

It takes a combination of failures for the cart to move when placed in gear. I'm sure Sergio will explain the 1st error which may have actually caused the solenoid failure

On those old carts only a welded solenoid can make it move with the Key OFF.

Otherwise it would take multiple failures, the pedal micro-switch and FNR micro-switch have to be welded to create sparks when you move the FNR into gear.

You may have other issues, but replacing the Solenoid will be the first step.

Yep. Solenoid is definitely a problem. The pedal microswitch can also be a culprit.

You still need a throttle signal, no? SO maybe the wiper arm not returning to the zero position ( micro switch off) ?

If it has a V-glide it only has one solenoid.

I think the OP needs to come back and clarify if it is doing this with the key off.

That would be nice. All I was saying is 2 things have to happen for the cart to go when put into gear. Solenoid closed and throttle input. The V-glide contacts are a notorious fail point in this cart.
