85 ezgo will rarely downshift
85 gas ezgo will rarely downshift. If you can go in reverse it will downshift and then you can go forward in low, any ideas ? also anyone know charging voltage? Seems to not be charging.

Re: 85 ezgo will rarely downshift
The clutch on the back side of the cart is the driven clutch. If it is not working correctly, then it cannot work in harmony with the engine side clutch which is the "drive" clutch. The driven tries to keep the belt at the outermost position while the drive clutch closes and tries to pull the belt from the inside toward the outside. This constant balancing act is what changes the "gear ratio" of the cart. If the driven clutch spring is broken or not strong enough, then it cant keep the belt as high as possible in it. Sort of like a 10 speed bicycle.........well, sort of. lol
